- 2.2 SHAREWARE
-
-
- The SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS(R) 1-2-3 can be
- found as an independent shareware program with it's own version
- number (in the future may be different) and it's own $40
- registration fee (PC-SIG'S Disk# 1988 since the year of 1987).
-
- Because of it's current general purpose nature the SCIENTIFIC &
- ENGINEERING TOOL can serve as a valuable complementary MATHEMATICS
- package to the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3. Therefore we
- decided to include it's latest version 1.2 free in this package,
- When you register for the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3
- you can legally enjoy the power of the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING
- TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 version 1.2 free without the need to purchase
- it separately.
-
- The reason that we continue to keep and market a separate
- shareware package of the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL is that in
- the future we may add specialized applications for Mechanical
- Engineers (like GEAR design package, O-RING design package or
- MECHANICAL SPRING design package) which have no place in the SUPER
- MACRO LIBRARY.
-
- We will continue to include the latest general purpose part of the
- independent SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL in the SUPER MACRO
- LIBRARY which may have a different version number in such a case.
-
- K.I.T.A.L. Software reserves the right to continue to market the
- SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 as an independent
- shareware OR commercial program, and the fact that version 1.2 of
- the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 is bundled here
- as a BONUS pack with the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3 is by
- no mean a commitment that future versions of the SUPER MACRO
- LIBRARY will always include the complete version of the SCIENTIFIC
- & ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 (as we explained earlier).
-
- The SCIENCE.EXE file is an integral part of the SUPER MACRO
- LIBRARY and should be treated so, and it is bound to the same
- rights and restrictions as written in the README.TXT file.
-
-
- 3. WHAT'S NEW
-
-
- This version is now working correctly inside Lotus 1-2-3 version
- 1.1 for Windows 3.0/3.1. Due to a serious bug in Lotus 1-2-3
- version 1.0 and 1.0a for Windows 3.0/3.1 the program could not
- work correctly. The two previous Lotus releases lost the
- Horizontal and the Vertical division of the screen each time the
- /GV or the F10 was pressed. If you use Lotus 1-2-3 for windows,
- the best display mode is the Draft mode. To set the display to
- Draft mode use the ALT Window Display Draft sequence. In this mode
- the character has fixed width and the appearance of the program is
- the best.

-
-
- 4. WELCOME
-
-
- This program is an easy to use, completely menu driven template
- program designed for the use of the Lotus 1-2-3 user who deals
- with number crunching and likes the way Lotus works. If you know
- Lotus 1-2-3 you already know this program. Because this tool
- operates with 1-2-3 style command, menus, formulas, etc., you can
- start working without having to learn a new program, so your
- investment in 1-2-3 training is preserved and enhanced.
-
- The program includes a sophisticated programmable calculator and
- solver which can do:
-
- 1. Simple arithmetic
- 2. Functions editing (programming) and functions calculations
- 3. Physical units definition and conversion
- 4. Integration and Differentiation of analytic functions and data
- tables
- 5. Editing and calculating statistic functions on list of numbers
- 6. Frequency distribution and normal distribution of data
- 7. Curve fitting (4 types)
- 8. Root finding (non-linear equations)
- 9. Matrix and vector operations
- 10. Simultaneous linear equation solving
-
- Statistical functions and any other functions and units are user
- programmable. Therefore this program can become the user's custom
- scientific handbook. The user can program thousands of functions:
- from one variable functions to seven variables functions, and by
- splitting functions of higher number of variables to groups of
- functions of seven variables and less, to solve more complicated
- problems.
-
- Integration and differentiation is done on functions inserted from
- the keyboard or on data tables imported as a text file. The
- program enables a graph of the function before and after
- integration or differentiation and allows saving the numeric data
- tables and the graphs for later use.
-
- The distribution functions are build-in with the program and are
- working on a list of numbers inserted from the keyboard or
- imported as a text file. These function produce a graph of the
- distribution and allows the saving of the graph as a .PIC file and
- the data as a text file for later use.
-
- The program already includes a large number of common used
- functions and units and the user can edit them or add as much as
- he likes. The user can use this program to keep track of his
- spreadsheets, and by using a keyword instead of a function he can
- activate a whole spreadsheet. Since this program was written in
- LOTUS macro language, when the user retrieves another program this
- program erases itself and leaves the full memory for the new
- spreadsheet. The user can create a small macro in his spreadsheets
- which will retrieve this program automatically when quitting.

-
-
- 5. INSTALLATION
-
-
- IMPORTANT: Make a backup/s of this diskette and store the original
- in a safe place.
-
- Set Lotus 1-2-3 to the 80x25 screen mode (use the INSTALL program
- in Lotus 1-2-3 system disk). If you are using the program from a
- floppy disk, make sure to set the default directory in Lotus 1-2-3
- to the floppy (because the program looks for the files in the
- diskette). If you like to use the program from a hard disk
- (RECOMMENDED), make a directory for this program and copy all the
- files to the directory. Make sure to set the default directory in
- Lotus 1-2-3 to the new directory (because the program looks for
- the files in that directory).
-
-
- 6. GETTING STARTED
-
-
- To start the program, start Lotus 1-2-3 and then RETRIEVE the file
- ATOOL.WK1. The program will start to run automatically.
-
-
- 7. VARIABLE NAMES CONVENTION
-
-
- As a LOTUS user you probably know that instead of variables LOTUS
- uses cell address or range names. Therefore when you are prompt to
- input a function or a formula or when you build a new functions or
- edit a function REMEMBER that LOTUS expect to get range names as
- variables. The range names are already defined in the program and
- MUST be used when you build or type a function. The rules are:
-
- a. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE SOLVER (Integration, Differentiation, Root
- finding):
-
- The variable name is "VAR" or "R".
-
- Example: @SIN(VAR)-VAR or @SIN(R)-R [[…
-
- b. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE CALCULATOR FUNCTIONS MODE (EDIT):
-
- The variable names are "RG1", "RG2", "RG3", "RG4", "RG5",
- "RG6", "RG7" or "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G" respectively.
- As you can see there are seven variables to allow the user to
- program up to seven variable functions.
-
- Example: @SIN(RG1)-RG2^2+RG3^5...... or @SIN(A)-B^2+C^5
-
- c. WHEN YOU ARE EDITING A ONE VARIABLE FUNCTION (1_func):
-
- The variable name is "OUT" or "T"
-
- Example: @SIN(OUT) or @SIN(T)
-
- - 7 -
-
-
- 8. GETTING HELP
-
-
- Almost every menu includes a Help option, every time you see the
- help menu item and you are using this menu the first time, take
- the time to look at the help document, it will save you from
- making errors. To get back to the program press the ESC key.
-
-
- 9. SCROLLING
-
-
- Sometimes in the program you need to scroll to highlight the
- FUNCTION or the UNIT you want to calculate. Use the menu items
- DOWN, UP, NEXT, PREVIOUS, RIGHT and LEFT. you can't use the arrow
- keys because they are used by LOTUS to move the highlight in the
- BAR MENU.
-
-
- 10. LOTUS "EDIT" MODE
-
-
- Sometimes the program enters the LOTUS "EDIT" mode. This is done
- to help you insert and calculate (integrate, differentiate and
- solve) 240 characters long functions. In this case all LOTUS keys
- and functions are operative BUT you are WARNED not to take
- advantage of this and only type the function and press the ENTER
- key. Trying to mess up with the program MAY result in destroying
- the template code. If by mistake you "have managed" to exit the
- "EDIT" mode (see indicator) press the F2 function key to get back
- to "EDIT" mode. But be sure that the HIGHLIGHT is on the right
- cell. If when you have exited the "EDIT" mode you have moved the
- highlight too, use the arrow keys to move it back to the right
- place and press the F2 function key to enter the "EDIT" mode.
-
-
- 11. ERROR HANDLING
-
-
- If you make an error that the program can't tolerate the program
- will prompt you to press any key and the program will switch to
- the main menu, so you can start all over again.
-
-
- 12. IF YOU NEED TO BE RESCUED!
-
-
- Press the ENTER KEY once or few times until you are back in one of
- the menus and than continue.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 8 -
-
-
- 13. STATUS INDICATOR
-
-
- Most of the time the program prompts the user at the main screen
- and gives a message like "Working... Please wait" some other times
- the status prompt appears in the indicator cell (upper right
- corner of the screen).
-
-
- 14. SAVED FILES FORMAT
-
-
- - Graphs are saved as *.PIC files
-
- - The units and functions are saved with the FORMULAS.WK1 file
-
- - The matrices and linear equations are saved as *.WK1 files
-
- - All other (integration, differentiation, curvefit etc. ) are
- saved as text files (ASCII) with the .PRN extension
-
-
- 15. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-
-
- IBM(R) PC, XT, AT, PS2 or compatibles DOS 2.0 or higher LOTUS
- 1-2-3 Version 2/2.01/2.2/3.0/3.1 and up Hard disk is recommended
