  186.        number (in the future may be different) and it's own $40
  187.        registration fee (PC-SIG'S Disk# 1988 since the year of 1987).

  189.        Because of it's current general purpose nature the SCIENTIFIC &
  190.        ENGINEERING TOOL can serve as a valuable complementary MATHEMATICS
  191.        package to the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3. Therefore we
  192.        decided to include it's latest version 1.2 free in this package,
  193.        When you register for the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3
  194.        you can legally enjoy the power of the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING
  195.        TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 version 1.2 free without the need to purchase

  198.        The reason that we continue to keep and market a separate
  199.        shareware package of the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL is that in
  200.        the future we may add specialized applications for Mechanical
  201.        Engineers (like GEAR design package, O-RING design package or

  203.        MACRO LIBRARY.

  206.        independent SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL in the SUPER MACRO

  210.        SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 as an independent
  211.        shareware OR commercial program, and the fact that version 1.2 of
  212.        the SCIENTIFIC & ENGINEERING TOOL for LOTUS 1-2-3 is bundled here
  213.        as a BONUS pack with the SUPER MACRO LIBRARY for LOTUS 1-2-3 is by
  214.        no mean a commitment that future versions of the SUPER MACRO
  215.        LIBRARY will always include the complete version of the SCIENTIFIC

  219.        LIBRARY and should be treated so, and it is bound to the same

  223.        3. WHAT'S NEW

  226.        This version is now working correctly inside Lotus 1-2-3 version
  227.        1.1 for Windows 3.0/3.1. Due to a serious bug in Lotus 1-2-3
  228.        version 1.0 and 1.0a for Windows 3.0/3.1 the program could not
  229.        work correctly. The two previous Lotus releases lost the
  230.        Horizontal and the Vertical division of the screen each time the
  231.        /GV or the F10 was pressed. If you use Lotus 1-2-3 for windows,
  232.        the best display mode is the Draft mode. To set the display to
  233.        Draft mode use the ALT Window Display Draft sequence. In this mode
  234.        the character has fixed width and the appearance of the program is
  235.        the best.

  240.        4. WELCOME

  243.        This program is an easy to use, completely menu driven template
  244.        program designed for the use of the Lotus 1-2-3 user who deals
  245.        with number crunching and likes the way Lotus works. If you know
  246.        Lotus 1-2-3 you already know this program. Because this tool
  247.        operates with 1-2-3 style command, menus, formulas, etc., you can
  248.        start working without having to learn a new program, so your
  249.        investment in 1-2-3 training is preserved and enhanced.

  251.        The program includes a sophisticated programmable calculator and
  252.        solver which can do:

  254.        1. Simple arithmetic
  255.        2. Functions editing (programming) and functions calculations
  256.        3. Physical units definition and conversion
  257.        4. Integration and Differentiation of analytic functions and data
  258.           tables
  259.        5. Editing and calculating statistic functions on list of numbers
  260.        6. Frequency distribution and normal distribution of data
  261.        7. Curve fitting (4 types)
  262.        8. Root finding (non-linear equations)
  263.        9. Matrix and vector operations
  264.        10. Simultaneous linear equation solving

  266.        Statistical functions and any other functions and units are user
  267.        programmable. Therefore this program can become the user's custom
  268.        scientific handbook. The user can program thousands of functions:
  269.        from one variable functions to seven variables functions, and by
  270.        splitting functions of higher number of variables to groups of
  271.        functions of seven variables and less, to solve more complicated
  272.        problems.

  274.        Integration and differentiation is done on functions inserted from
  275.        the keyboard or on data tables imported as a text file. The
  276.        program enables a graph of the function before and after
  277.        integration or differentiation and allows saving the numeric data
  278.        tables and the graphs for later use.

  280.        The distribution functions are build-in with the program and are
  281.        working on a list of numbers inserted from the keyboard or
  282.        imported as a text file. These function produce a graph of the
  283.        distribution and allows the saving of the graph as a .PIC file and
  284.        the data as a text file for later use.

  286.        The program already includes a large number of common used
  287.        functions and units and the user can edit them or add as much as
  288.        he likes. The user can use this program to keep track of his
  289.        spreadsheets, and by using a keyword instead of a function he can
  290.        activate a whole spreadsheet. Since this program was written in
  291.        LOTUS macro language, when the user retrieves another program this
  292.        program erases itself and leaves the full memory for the new
  293.        spreadsheet. The user can create a small macro in his spreadsheets
  294.        which will retrieve this program automatically when quitting.

  302.        IMPORTANT: Make a backup/s of this diskette and store the original
  303.                   in a safe place.
  304.  
  305.        Set Lotus 1-2-3 to the 80x25 screen mode (use the INSTALL program
  306.        in Lotus 1-2-3 system disk). If you are using the program from a
  307.        floppy disk, make sure to set the default directory in Lotus 1-2-3
  308.        to the floppy (because the program looks for the files in the
  309.        diskette). If you like to use the program from a hard disk
  310.        (RECOMMENDED), make a directory for this program and copy all the
  311.        files to the directory. Make sure to set the default directory in
  312.        Lotus 1-2-3 to the new directory (because the program looks for
  313.        the files in that directory).

  316.        6. GETTING STARTED
  317.

  319.        To start the program, start Lotus 1-2-3 and then RETRIEVE the file
  320.        ATOOL.WK1. The program will start to run automatically.

  323.        7. VARIABLE NAMES CONVENTION
  324.  
  325.  
  326.        As a LOTUS user you probably know that instead of variables LOTUS
  327.        uses cell address or range names. Therefore when you are prompt to
  328.        input a function or a formula or when you build a new functions or
  329.        edit a function REMEMBER that LOTUS expect to get range names as
  330.        variables. The range names are already defined in the program and
  331.        MUST be used when you build or type a function. The rules are:
  332.  
  333.        a. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE SOLVER (Integration, Differentiation, Root
  334.           finding):
  335.  
  336.           The variable name is "VAR" or "R".
  337.  
  338.           Example: @SIN(VAR)-VAR  or @SIN(R)-R[[…

  340.        b. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE CALCULATOR FUNCTIONS MODE (EDIT):

  342.           The variable names are "RG1", "RG2", "RG3", "RG4", "RG5",
  343.           "RG6", "RG7" or "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G" respectively.
  344.           As you can see there are seven variables to allow the user to
  345.           program up to seven variable functions.

  347.           Example: @SIN(RG1)-RG2^2+RG3^5......  or @SIN(A)-B^2+C^5

  349.        c. WHEN YOU ARE EDITING A ONE VARIABLE FUNCTION (1_func):

  358.        8. GETTING HELP

  361.        Almost every menu includes a Help option, every time you see the
  362.        help menu item and you are using this menu the first time, take
  363.        the time to look at the help document, it will save you from
  364.        making errors. To get back to the program press the ESC key.

  367.        9. SCROLLING
  368.  
  369.  
  370.        Sometimes in the program you need to scroll to highlight the
  371.        FUNCTION or the UNIT you want to calculate. Use the menu items
  372.        DOWN, UP, NEXT, PREVIOUS, RIGHT and LEFT. you can't use the arrow
  373.        keys because they are used by LOTUS to move the highlight in the
  374.        BAR MENU.

  377.        10. LOTUS "EDIT" MODE
  378.  
  379.  
  380.        Sometimes the program enters the LOTUS "EDIT" mode. This is done
  381.        to help you insert and calculate (integrate, differentiate and
  382.        solve) 240 characters long functions. In this case all LOTUS keys
  383.        and functions are operative BUT you are WARNED not to take
  384.        advantage of this and only type the function and press the ENTER
  385.        key. Trying to mess up with the program MAY result in destroying
  386.        the template code. If by mistake you "have managed" to exit the
  387.        "EDIT" mode (see indicator) press the F2 function key to get back
  388.        to "EDIT" mode. But be sure that the HIGHLIGHT is on the right
  389.        cell. If when you have exited the "EDIT" mode you have moved the
  390.        highlight too, use the arrow keys to move it back to the right
  391.        place and press the F2 function key to enter the "EDIT" mode.

  394.        11. ERROR HANDLING

  397.        If you make an error that the program can't tolerate the program
  398.        will prompt you to press any key and the program will switch to
  399.        the main menu, so you can start all over again.

  406.        the menus and than continue.
